James D. Callahan, Esq.
Attorney

Jim Callahan joined Jung Disability and Injury Advocates in 2024 as an associate attorney, following a twenty-five year career in his own practice representing individuals in claims for Social Security and SSI disability, long-term disability, and similar programs intended to help those no longer able to work.
Originally from North Carolina, Jim received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Campbell College (now University). Upon graduation Jim was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, where he held positions responsible for
personnel management and leadership, making decisions regarding performance, qualifications, and family needs. In Germany, he was the Commanding Officer of the organization that
provided U.S. Postal Services to the headquarters of the United States Army in Europe and surrounding communities. The Army sent Jim to graduate school at Georgia State University where he was awarded a master's in public administration degree with a concentration in organizational development. Jim then served as a consultant to help the senior officers of National Guard and Army Reserve units implement more effective leadership practices. Jim also served as the Commanding Officer of a military organization responsible for soldiers and their families while transiting from assignments throughout the United States en route to assignments in Europe, often providing assistance with various legal, financial, and family emergencies.
These skills helped prepare Jim for understanding and guiding his future clients in a variety of legal challenges.
After leaving the Army, Jim worked as the business manager and a legal assistant for a law firm in eastern North Carolina that was dedicated to representing military personnel worldwide. This job together with his previous experiences inspired him to go to law school, and he graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2000. He was awarded the CALI Award for Constitutional Law, elected President of the Student Chapter of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and was selected to join the SOUTH CAROLINA LAW REVIEW. Additionally, Professor David G. Owen chose Jim as his chief editorial assistant for Professor Owen's seminal legal manual on Products Liability Law.
After completing law school, Jim worked for a law firm handling a variety of actions on behalf of injured persons, including workers compensation and personal injury. However, he developed a passion for helping individuals who had been denied their disability benefits. In 2004 Jim established his own law firm dedicated exclusively to helping disabled persons obtain the disability benefits that they need and deserve. Jim also taught day-long seminars to other attorneys on Social Security disability law, and made disability benefits presentations to civic groups, medical support/advocacy groups, and other professionals.
During that period Jim came to know and respect Attorney Brad Jung as they collaborated to appeal disability cases to the United States District Court. In 2024, as Jim was winding down his own private practice, Brad asked Jim to join him as an associate of Jung Disability and Injury Advocates. In addition to Social Security and long-term disability cases, Jim works with Brad and other firm members on probate matters, personal injury, real estate litigation, business disputes, and other situations where individuals need legal help during some of the most challenging periods of their lives.
As an attorney with Jung Disability and Injury Advocates in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Jim Callahan is committed to providing focused, knowledgeable representation and guiding clients through complex situations with clarity, diligence, and respect.
